Welcome to the gallery, which serves as my online portfolio. Here you'll find a varied collection of freehand art and graphic design spanning the last sixteen years or so. I've always just sort of gravitated toward the visual arts, and my path has become much more technical over the years. I enjoy diversity, and finding new mediums through which I can compose.
That being said, there's a lot of content here crossing several different mediums. I'll try and break them down for you below:
portraits
I first started trying my hand at photorealism when I was about 16 years old. Up until that time, everything had just been cartoon doodles, awful landscapes and a bunch of random nonsense. Even early on, though, I took a strong interest in drawing people, as they're often stories unto themselves.
I've tried just about every method I could think of to create realistic portraits, and I'd say that above all, my favorites are Prismacolor colored pencils (these are the expensive soft lead ones you can't erase, but offer the best color), charcoal pencil, and a plain old No³ pencil. I can work on just about any type of paper and often do, but I love working with illustration board and large acid-free papers in general.
illustration
As I said before, I've been fascinated by cartoons and comics pretty much all my life. When I was about 11 or 12, I got it into my head that I was going to be a comic book illustrator. Of course this is something I'd still love to do, even if it's not for a major label. The trouble, of course, is time.
Needless to say, I've done hundreds of character drawings over the years, some more complete than others, some less pitiful than others. I've tried to assemble what I feel are some of my best character drawings and sketches, in varied stages of completion. Almost all of these are done using mechanical pencil (0.3mm) or Micron pens (because I love precision).
design
I first discovered the pull of digital art my sophomore year in high school while in an AP Studio Art class. To give you an idea of the era, we were working with Illustrator 3.0, Photoshop 2.0 running on (I believe) Mac OS 7. Since then, I've made it a point to keep my skills sharpened and ever-increasing in number. In recent years, I've made a very concerted effort to learn all the depths and nuances of CSS (Cascading Style Sheets), which has taken my graphic design skills even further.
While this by no means encompasses everything I've ever done, it is the best of what I have left. There was an incident a few years back, and I lost nearly 9 years worth of work to a hard drive failure. Yeah, it hurt a bit. But behold! Not all of the pieces I'd done during those years were lost, and I've continued vigilantly to produce new material since then. Assembled here are what I feel to be the best of the old as well as the new.
desktops
What can I say? I'm a geek of several kinds. Not content to rely on others to make them for me, I often get bored and make desktop backgrounds. These are some of the results. Some are quite old, some are very new (more recent desktops are in widescreen format as well). They're mainly just products of boredom, but I enjoy making them, so there.
